About The School

This outreach program was carried out jointly by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), Sikkim Manipal University and the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta at the SMIT Campus, Majitar, Sikkim. It was envisioned that the students, scholars and young faculty of SMIT would benefit from an exposure to advanced topics in the field of communications, electronics and information technology. In addition, faculty and scholars from nearby institutes and other areas of the North East were also invited to participate.

The topics covered in the five-day workshop were

  • Semiconductor devices
  • Advances in VLSI Devices & Circuits
  • Mobile and Optical Communication
  • Materials Growth and Characterization

Inaugural Function

The inaugural session was attended by Brig. Dr S. N. Mishra, (Vice Chancellor SMU); Maj. Gen. Dr S. S. Dassaka, SM, VSM (Retd.) (Director SMIT); Prof. Dr. B. S. Dandapat (Dean, Academics); the local organizing chair Prof. Dr. R. Bera (SMIT), Prof. P. K. Basu (Former Director, UGSNRCPS, RPE, CU), Prof S. Sen (CAS Coordinator, RPE CU), the other resource persons from RPE, CU, faculty of SMIT, students and scholars.

Selection of Candidates

The submitted registration forms were examined and a list of selected fellows was published in the website to enable them to reserve train/air tickets. Due consideration was given to select participants from all over India and to give preference to candidates from North Eastern regions. The following Table may provide an idea how the objective was fulfilled.
