Workshop on Advances in Photonics, Electronics and Communication Systems (APECS-2012)

Inaugural Function

A five day National Workshop entitled Advances in Photonics, Electronics and Communication Systems (APECS-2012) was held at Tezpur University, Tezpur, Assam during January 23-27, 2012. The programme was organized by the UGC Networking Resource Centre in Physical Sciences (UGC-NRCPS), Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics (RPE), University of Calcutta (CU) and conducted jointly by the UGC-NRCPS and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Tezpur University .

The Inaugural Programme was held on January 23, 2012 with the Dean of Technology, Prof. M. Bhuyan, the Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Prof. P. P. Sahu, the Director UGC-NRCPS, Prof. G. Ghosh and Prof. A. Maitra, Head of the Department of Radio Physics and Electronics and other distinguished persons lighting the inauguration lamp. The welcome address was given by Prof. M. Bhuyan. Prof. P. P. Sahu, the Local Coordinator spoke about the scope of the Workshop. Prof. G. Ghosh, Director UGC-NRCPS introduced the audience about the programmes of UGC-NRCPS and Prof. A. Maitra introduced the audience about the pioneering activities of the Institute of Radio Physics and Elctronics.

Feedback from Participants

Questions were asked mostly by faculties as well as PG students. The participants also interacted with the resource persons during breaks and in the evening in the guest house.
A feedback form was distributed to the participants asking questions related to course content, level, speed and quality of presentation, future plan of the participants, hall management and quality of food etc. Their suggestion on future theme of workshop was also solicited.

An informal session was organized before the Valedictory session, in which the feedback obtained from the participants was summarized. Many participants expressed their satisfaction over the course content and the method of presentation. Some of them felt that topics on Mobile Communication and Microwave Communication should have been included. A request was made by the participants to organize another seminar/workshop covering at least a few days on topics related to student’s interest.

Selection of Candidates

The submitted registration forms were examined and a list of selected fellows was published in the website to enable them to reserve train/air tickets. Due consideration was given to select participants from all over India and to give preference to candidates from North Eastern regions. The following Table may provide an idea how the objective was fulfilled.
