The remarkable progress in communication and information technology has enabled all the people to be members of the global village. Wireless (mobile), satellite and fibre optic communication have become the key technologies on which the present information society is becoming increasingly dependent. The progress in communication is facilitated by the availability of various analog and digital circuits in monolithically integrated form. High speed and high performance computers are also available to process the huge amount of data to be transmitted via communication networks.

University College of Technology-Calcutta University (UCT-CU) plans to hold a one day Workshop entitled "Advances in Communication and Electronic Technology" (COMET) to discuss the latest advances in a few areas of communication, devices and circuits, under its Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP).
