About The School

The First meeting of Indian Antenna Week (IAW), a workshop on Advanced Antenna Technology, was held at Mayfair Beach Resort, Puri, India, during May31- June 4, 2010. This was organized by the IEEE AP-MTT Calcutta Chapter in association with the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta (under UGC-NRCPS).

This weeklong residential workshop was planned to introduce the young antenna researchers/scientists of the country with the advanced state of the art technologies. This was technically and financially supported by IEEE AP Society. IAW 2010 was attended by about 55 delegates (see list below), out of which about 40 participants were below 35. IEEE AP-S President Prof. Robert D. Nevels chaired the inaugural session on the first day of the workshop (Figure 1) and was present for the whole workshop. Prof. Nevels also delivered a Keynote Address on Nano-Antennas. Two plenary talks focused on the survey of antennas and UWB Systems were delivered by Prof. Tapan K. Sarkar of Syracuse University and Prof. Magdalena Salazar-Palma of University Carlos III De Madrid, (Fig. 2) respectively. The keynote and plenary speakers were welcomed with special gifts by Antenna Week Chair Prof. Debatosh Guha of University of Calcutta (Figure 3). The whole technical hours were planned with a nice blend of tutorials, invited talks, industrial sessions and contributory sessions. The whole program was planned and coordinated by Prof. Pradip K. Saha of University of Calcutta. Senior Antenna scientist from Indian Space (ISRO) and Defense (DRDO) have actively participated and encouraged the young participants.

The participants also enjoyed a half day tour to the world famous Sun Temple of Konark ( located about 35 km away from Puri.

Apart from IEEE AP-S and UGC-NRCPS of University of Calcutta, the conference was financially supported by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG), Heritage Institute of Technology-Kolkata, CST and FEKO.
